Greenville Museum of Art Artist Association

History of the Artist Association

The artist association was founded in 2004 to meet the needs of the growing community of visual artists in the Greenville and Pitt County area.  The association includes artists and art supporters who wish to participate in bringing awareness, education, and growth to the Pitt County community.  The association is designed to provide a forum for networking, educational, and exhibition opportunities to artists.

Annual Juried Art Exhibition
July 29, 2010 – August 29, 2010

About the Juried Exhibition
The Annual Juried Exhibition of the GMA Artist Association provides an open juried competition for artists’ newer works juried by an American art expert. The exhibition will be held at the Greenville Museum of Art, 802 S. Evans Street, Greenville, NC 27834 from July 29 – August 29, 2010.

Awards
A prize fund is guaranteed for the Best in Show, Second and Third places. Award money is dependent upon the number of entries received. Honorable Mentions may be awarded at the juror’s discretion.

Eligibility
General: The exhibition is open to all artists, 18 years of age and over, who reside in Pitt, Beaufort, Craven, Edgecombe, Greene, Lenoir, Martin or Wilson County.

Medium: Original works in all fine art media, two and three dimensions, completed within the last three years are eligible. Works must be the artist’s own creation and not created under the supervision of an instructor. Hand pulled prints, original digital prints and numbered photographs are eligible.

Not Eligible: mass produced prints; giclées on canvas or paper; unnumbered prints or photographs; multiple edition sculpture; works made from craft kits; functional ceramic pieces; and installation, video or performance pieces.


Presentation: Two-dimensional works cannot exceed 96” x 96” and must be professionally framed and ready to hang with wire (no sawtooth hangers). Canvas edges must be finished or framed with no visible staples. Paint must be thoroughly dry.  Three-dimensional works must fit through a 48” x 72” doorway, must sit on a flat surface (not suspended), and must not exceed 100 pounds.

Final decisions:  The Association reserves the right to refuse any work it considers inappropriate for the exhibition including, but not limited to, work it considers too fragile or too heavy to exhibit or that has extraordinary installation requirements. Decisions made by the Association concerning eligibility are final. Agreement
Entry into this exhibition constitutes agreement to the conditions set forth in this prospectus. Accepted entries may not be removed before the close of the exhibition. No substitutions will be allowed.

Fees/Membership Dues
Each artist will pay a non-refundable entry fee of $15.00 for Association members for up to four pieces and $30.00 for non-members for up to three entries. Association memberships will be available at the time of entry and begin at $25.00 per year.

Sales
All works must be for sale. The Association will retain a 30% commission for Association members and 50% for non-members on works sold. Artists checks will be mailed within ten days after the exhibition closes and only after the work has been paid in full by the buyer.

Pick up and Delivery
There will be no slides. All works must be hand-delivered to the Greenville Museum of Art and picked up at the Museum on the dates specified in the "Insurance" and "Calendar" sections. All works not picked up on the dates specified will be placed in storage at the artist's own risk and expense. All works not picked up within 30 days following the close of the exhibition are subject to disposal at the discretion of the Association, without liability or further notice to the artist.

Insurance
All works submitted will be insured while at the Greenville Museum of Art but only for a the dates specified in the "Calendar" section. Works not selected for the exhibition will be insured up to July 16, 2010, but not after. Works selected for the exhibition will be insured up to September 3, 2010 but not after. All works will be insured for one-half the sales price. The artist bears all responsibility for proof of declared value.

August 31 - September 3: Pick-up Work

Notification
Accepted artists will be notified by telephone. A listing will also be posted at the Museum. Phone calls will be made between 10:00am and 4:30pm so please leave phone numbers on the entry form where you can be reached during these times. We will call the Phone #1 first and if unable to reach you we will call the Phone #2. It is your responsibility to be at one of these numbers or have some type of answering device where we can leave a message. If you are not called your work was not accepted.
