Honoring Artistic Excellence
GMoA is proud to introduce the Nancy Monroe Artist of the Year Award, honoring exceptional artistic excellence in North Carolina and celebrating the legacy of Greenville sculptor Nancy Monroe (1931–2024). The 2026 honoree is George Crisman Snyder III, an artist, muralist, and contemporary quilter known for his bold geometric work across painting, sculpture, and textiles. A special pop-up exhibition of Snyder’s work will be featured during the event.

Born in Charlotte and raised in Concord, Snyder earned a B.A. in Fine Art from Averett University. He has worked as an art teacher, decorative artist, and equestrian trainer, shaping his distinctive style. Now a quilter, he preserves Southern quilting traditions from 1840–1900, creating hand-pieced, hand-quilted works. Snyder continues to teach, restore, and create commissioned quilts from his Ayden home with his family
